Al Lopez, the first professional baseball player from Tampa to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, was a rare talent, and a genteel man. His fame never overshadowed his desire to leave a legacy for those who would come after. He paved the road to greatness with his strong and steady determination.

In this house, he spent countless hours dreaming about a game he so loved. Now, you can experience all that he, and other Tampa baseball legends, revered.

Run the bases with us and explore exhibits that will put 125 years of local baseball heritage into perspective. Exhibits touch on every level of the sport from local minor leagues, to the big names from Tampa who made the game great like Tino Martinez, Fred McGriff, Lou Piniella, Wade Boggs, Tony LaRussa, and Dwight Gooden.

If you hailed from West Tampa or Ybor City, Baseball was your World.

Al Lopez, Wade Boggs, Lou Piniella and countless others knew it was their ticket to the majors. This just wasn’t a sport…it was their oxygen. Baseball equaled opportunities and that meant freedom to pursue dreams. Most of all, this game, and the traditions it embodied, played a major role in shaping the community they came from and helped integrate the wide range of cultures and heritage in our region.

The Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House will celebrate and embrace the past, present, and future of Tampa baseball and its people from Little League to Major League, and everything in between, including factory, inter-social, municipal, Cigar City, and Negro leagues.

The permanent exhibit, along with a rotating exhibit, will cover more than 125 years of baseball heritage. As we work toward opening, we’re seeking artifacts and memorabilia to preserve and honor Tampa’s historic role in the game of baseball.

When the Tampa Baseball Museum opens its playbook, we’ll gladly welcome visitors from across the state, country and world.

From Little League teams, to school groups, and community groups who want to see this special space dedicated to the preservation of Tampa’s legends, we’ve got you covered.

Inspiring, informative docent-led tours of the museum can be reserved online by emailing GroupTours@TampaBaseballMuseum.org, or by calling (813) 247-1434.

Please reserve your tour at least a month in advance. When reserving your tour date, please let us know if you’ll need bus parking.

Special arrangements can be made for evening tours and private events.
